Description
Meiners Oaks Parks, a community-based nonprofit developing a 2-acre nature-focused park in Meiners Oaks, has released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for artists interested in creating sculptural artworks that invite visitors to engage physically and emotionally with art and nature.
The Park, now in development, will feature art that complements the Park’s theme of art, nature, and community and blends seamlessly into the landscape while reflecting the cultural and historical richness of Meiners Oaks.
The cultural focus of the Park includes:
•The heritage of the Chumash people, who have lived in this region for millennia
•The Theosophist movement, which influenced the area’s spiritual and artistic sensibilities
•The agricultural influence beginning with John Meiner in 1876 to local organic farmers serving the Farm-to-Market movement today
•The modern, small-town Southern California culture – vibrant, multiethnic, outdoor focused, community-oriented, and informal
Five artists or teams of artists will be selected through a juried process to develop proposals including imagery or rendering to be presented to the jury. Each of the five artists will receive a stipend after their presentation. Selected artists will present their work at a public meeting in April 2026.
“We want art in the Park to be something that you feel a connection to or be a part of” said Paula Power, president of Meiners Oaks Parks. “It’s about connecting people to community, creativity, and the natural beauty that defines Meiners Oaks.”
Artists are encouraged to use natural and sustainable materials and to design works that complement the Park’s focus on ecological awareness and local culture.
The total project will result in one to three sculptures that are integrated into the Park design and express the Park’s themes of play, nature, and community.

This call is open to professional and emerging artists with a preference for those based in Ventura County and the greater Southern California region.

About the Park
Located at 312 E. El Roblar Drive in Meiners Oaks, the Park is envisioned as a community gathering place where art, nature, and culture meet. Designed and supported by local volunteers with no paid staff, the 2-acre site will include native plants, play areas for children, shaded gathering areas for families, and spaces for quiet reflection and playful discovery.
This project reflects the community’s shared vision: to create a lasting resource that honors the area’s history while nurturing play, creativity, and sustainability
