Open Call for New Commissions for the Emergence Festival 2027
How does complexity arise? How do simple interactions give rise to worlds, structures, patterns, materials, behaviours, and forms of collective life?
Emergence at All Scales (EAAS), a major Dutch research consortium invites artists, makers, and collectives to propose new works inspired by the theme of emergence. Bringing together researchers from mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, and related fields, EAAS explores how complex phenomena emerge across scales—from quantum spacetime and intelligent materials to collective behaviour, networks, and social systems.
Selected projects will be developed in dialogue with EAAS researchers and premiered at the first Emergence Festival in June 2027 in Amsterdam. We welcome proposals across visual art, digital art, film, installation, performance, sound, and interdisciplinary practices, with a particular interest in works that make complex ideas tangible for broad audiences. Selected fellows receive a production budget of €20,000 (incl. VAT), research and curatorial support, and festival presentation.
